Ubuntu blank screen for a few seconds

us flag

Ubuntu gives me a blank screen every time I open an app.

  1. This happens when I connect HDMI, two USBs, ethernet and power to my USB-C port (via an adapter).

  2. It does not freeze - I can still hear music.

  3. Checking /var/log/syslog as suggested here I see many screen configuration attempts at the time of said blank screen (see below).

  4. I guess Ubuntu is trying to find the best screen resolution, and it takes a few seconds.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of these annoying freezes?

Output in var/log/syslog:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
