Ubuntu 20.04.3 Alienware Laptop freezes when booting Ubuntu while plugged into Dell Thunderbolt 3 Dock (WD19TB)

in flag

Upon booting, there is about an 80% chance that the laptop will simply freeze, load to a black screen, or just dump a bunch of text in a booting terminal window and eventually freeze when it is plugged into my Dell WD19TB Thunderbolt 3 dock.

If I boot my laptop without the dock plugged in there is no issues, however if I then plug the dock in afterwards, there is again an ~80% chance that it will freeze. Sometimes the freeze is immediate, other times I can move the mouse around but it will be very very choppy and eventually stop being responsive.

If I keep trying, eventually it will boot into the system with the dock plugged in and everything working fine.

I've seen a few posts in the past about this same issue:

Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS issue with Dell Thunderbolt 3 Dock after update

After most recent kernel update (4.15.0-44-generic) my tablet freezes whenever plugged into docking station

So it seems to likely be related to the Kernel. However, I've tried several different Kernels and I am not having any luck with any of the more recent ones.

I am currently using 5.11.0-38-generic and also have -37-generic and have used several older ones (I think something like 5.4.x~)

Is there a known stable Kernel that will work with this configuration?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
