Kubuntu wont start

Some time ago I plugged a second Graphic Card to try passthrough to a VM.

I forgot it inside my system because I never finished my tests and recently I try to remove it but the system didn't start any more.

I found several articles about that issue but with different folder structures and solution that could damage my system. I can not afford to let something like that to happen right now.

I am kind of newbie in Linux, so PLEASE, go easy with me. :)

When I was trying to make the passthrough I didf the following:

  • I first tried to use VirtualBox and also tried pciattach, but I failed
  • Then I install KVM, but I failed to complete the passthrough again

When i removed the second Graphic Card and got the issue, I tried:

  • to edit the /etc/sddm.conf.d/kde_settings.conf not so much of success
  • to edit the sddm.conf to VBoxManage modifyvm Win10_game --pcidetach 03:[email protected]:08.0 "there was nothing attached"
  • to install gdm3, could not start as well and I prefer the sddm better
  • to update to the latest and try different drivers, no luck
  • to clean and reinstall nvidia drivers, didn't help
  • to install different version of nvidia drivers, only 390 worked but it was flickering so bad that you could not work at all
  • to completely remove nvidia drivers, I could not start gui

This is the second Graphic Card

IOMMU Group 21 03:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: NVIDIA Corporation GP108 [GeForce GT 1030] [10de:1d01] (rev a1)

thanks in advance

What do you mean by "second VGA"? VGA is just a standard. It's quite often and incorrectly used to refer to a video output connection. However in this case it seems you're using it as synonym for graphics card. Is it correct? If so you may well edit the question and call it what it is, a second graphics card.

@ChanganAuto In order to do a passthrough with nvidia you need 2 graphic cards(VGA Video Graphics Array) :) 1) gt1050 ti 2)gt1030

I'm aware of that. The point was (and is) about nomenclature. VGA is from 1987 and since then has been superseded many many times. No one calls a graphics card "VGA" since at least the late 90s.

@ChanganAuto Thank you for the clearance, can you help me? PS I left the "VGA" at the last line because this is how linux described it today, I just copy paste it.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
