Screen flickering upon logging out or locking screen - 21.10

in flag

Whenever I log out or if the screen locks, the screen becomes blank. It would then start to flicker uncontrollably between a blank screen and noise/static. At this point my device would be unresponsive and I would have to hard reboot it. It would boot just fine, but the problem would persist. I've been trying to set the device to automatically lock with no luck.

I am using Ubuntu 21.10, and my device is HP HP Laptop 14-bw0xx, with a AMD® Hainan / AMD® Stoney graphics card.

I've seen similar screen-tearing problems experienced by other users on various versions, but I think this problem is different in the sense that I can't do anything once the screen goes blank and starts flickering. I've tried switching between using wayland and xorg with no difference. I've tried switching between gdm3 and lightdm display managers, and still no result.

I'm only just starting to use ubuntu, so I'm not too familiar with it... Thank you in advance!

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
