Monitor IDs change when rearranged

ye flag

I’ve been using Kubuntu for two months with no issue. Yesterday, I reinstalled Windows and then Kubuntu so I could dual boot, but I’m now getting the issue where my mouse clicks register on the wrong monitor in Kubuntu. I tried rearranging the monitors, but I noticed that the IDs kept changing. For example, after moving my HDMI monitor to the left of my DisplayPort monitor, it would then call my HDMI monitor DP-1 and the DP monitor HDMI-1.

I’m not sure if this is related, but my mouse clicks also register on the wrong monitor when the displays are mislabeled. When they are correctly labeled, the mouse is fine, but this is unfortunately not the order I need.

Things I have tried:

  • Switching to Ubuntu without KDE (same problem)
  • Switching to Windows (it works fine there)
  • Rearranging the displays using xrandr, Settings, and editing the file in ~/.local/share/kdisplay directly
  • Rearranging the ports the monitors are plugged into
  • Reinstalling both Windows and Kubuntu
  • Reinstalling Kubuntu with and without the “download third party drivers” option on install

The computer uses a 3090. I’m not sure if that’s helpful but I’ll try anything at this point.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
