Xorg process causing 5-11% CPU load sometimes

ru flag

Xubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

Sometimes, when the system starts, a few minutes after the desktop has appeared, the System Load plugin detects a 5% CPU load that is caused by the following process and remains there all the time:

usr/lib/xorg/Xorg -core :0 -seat seat0 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch

The process keeps running in the background. Most of the time though, this doesn't happen and this same process consumes 0-1% of CPU.

Does anyone know why this happens and if this process can be stopped or killed because so far, the only way for it to go back to its normal consumption is a system reboot.

Thank you.

Depending on the total CPU power, of course, it is quite normal to have some background activity of Xorg, which can periodically be a little higher. Right now, I have 1 - 2 % on a 8 core processor.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
