Weird Icons and desktop UI on fresh install of 21.04

cn flag

So I installed the Ubuntu 21.04 Hirsute version on my Lenovo Thinkpad computer. I experienced some errors while it was being installed but i ignored them and just clicked ok. After the installation was over i restarted my computer and when i logged in my apps were looking like this:

enter image description here

Any idea why this is happening and how to fix it?

You may have multiple gnome desktop extensions installed. However, please note that 21.04 is almost end-of-life. Is there any real reason you selected 21.04 instead of 21.10?

What errors happened during the installation? If you didn't make note of them, you're not going to know what you need to fix. It's not worth trying to save a brand new installation that didn't install correctly to begin with. It's like building a house on a bad foundation. Although unlike building a house, it isn't costly to start over. So start over! As mentioned in the previous comment, 21.04 is not a great installation candidate. You can use 21.10 which has 9 months of support from Oct-2021 or 20.04 which is supported until 2025. If you get errors, make note of them!

I agree with @Nmath; if one single *squashfs* error was encountered during install; I'd not trust the install' besides Ubuntu 21.04 is in it's last days - https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-announce/2021-December/000275.html sp why not start on a release that has some life left (*not just days*)

You have two gnome-shell dock extensions installed. Disable or remove one of them.

@FedKad well i just went to software updater to see if there was any new update and it said that i could install 21.04 and so i did because i've read somewhere that having newer versions improves system performance

@Ptolemaios Yes. Disabling one of the two installed Desktop Icons extensions will fix your problem.

@Ptolemaios Go to https://extensions.gnome.org/local/, or use the `Extensions` app.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
