No sound through HDMI when displays are in clone mode

br flag

Here is my current setup: I am running a standard Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS on my PC, with the following video & audio setup: An NVidia graphics card with HDMI and VGA output A display connected by VGA to the video card my amplifier connected by HDMI to the video card (for audio) No display connected to my amplifier

Here is the problem: When in the audio settings, I see the HDMI out, with the VUmetre bouncing happily. But I have no sound. If I go to the Display settings (My system is in french, so I translate approximately), I see that two displays are detected, the AV amplifier being detected as a second display. I am currently in clone mode (second option): If I switch to unique display (third option), still no sound; But if I switch to Join displays (first option)... Then I get sound! The problem is that I don't want joined displays, since I have no display connected to the AV receiver, so I would have windows that open on a non existing display.

I tried looking in pavucontrol, fooling around in alsaconf, but impossible to solve the issue. And I see no change in the audio settings when I change the displays configuration...

Thanks a lot for your help!

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
