I have Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS with two 2080Ti GPUs and would like to set up dual monitor rendered from each GPU.
hdmi cables are connected to each but only one monitor was working.
I googled a bit and figured that I need to change nvidia settings
First thing I check was nvidia-smi and I confirmed that both GPUs are visible
from the windows I get from sudo nvidia-settings
I saw that one of the monitor is disabled.
So I Configured it to X screen 1 (it was the only choice other than disable)
But when I clicked apply, I saw the following pop up
and when I click save, I was getting Unable to open x config file
(again, even though I opened it with sudo).
I checked /etc/X11
folder and found that I don't have xorg.conf
file.
Next thing I tried was to manually add a xorg.conf
file from preview text.
The following is what I got from preview.
# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings: version 455.32.00

After rebooting, I noticed that my mouse was going to the other monitor but the screen was black. Also, the cursor was just x as shown in the following picture.
Can anyone help me with this issue? This is really frustrating...
