Omen 15 AMD/NVIDIA (iGPU/dGPU) second display not working

ax flag

I have an Omen 15 with Ubuntu 21.10, and my specs are:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7
  • iGPU: AMD Renoir
  • dGPU: NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3070

Also I have two screens:

  • laptop builtin screen powered by iGPU (AMD Renoir)
  • external display through HDMI powered by dGPU (Nvidia RTX 3070)

Problem:

  • Its difficult to boot ubuntu, I have to add nomodeset or modeset=1 to grub settings
  • After install NVIDIA drivers (because there are no noveau ones for my nvidia card) the second display stays black and its not recognized by Ubuntu

Any help please

Thank you!

With `nomodeset`you aren't using any graphical drivers, none at all. And the builtin screen is driven by whatever graphics is enabled in a hybrid graphics configuration; external monitors, however, are typically driven only by the dGPU so, in order to use it you need to be running the dGPU. Switch to Nvidia is easily done with Nvidia X Server Settings but that depends on the correct Nvidia driver installed **and Secure Boot disable** (or drivers manually signed with MOK).

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
