Ayatana keyboard indicator blends into background

cn flag

After upgrading Ubuntu MATE 20.04 to 22.04, it seems the new standard way of getting indicator icons in the panel is via the Ayatana indicator system. I've added the keyboard layout indicator by installing ayatana-indicator-keyboard, and turned it on in the indicator control center. The only setting on the "Keyboard" tab is to turn it on or off, notably, nothing about its appearance.

The problem is that it is now rendered in faint gray on white background, making it completely unreadable:

How can I change this to a more readable color scheme?

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
