UI login doesn't work after restart

gb flag

After updating from Ubuntu 20.04 to Ubuntu 22.04 I cannot sign in to the UI session: after typing in the password I am just thrown back to the login screen.

It does work without issues for a newly created user but not for the one that I've had since Ubuntu 18.04

The way I can fix it after reboot is:

rm -rf .config .local .cache sudo service gdm restart

it must have something to do with my .config but I cannot narrow it down. Any ideas?

Edit: apparently it has something to do with the content of ~/.config/dconf/user - deleting that file will make subsequent logins succeed (at the cost of losing the desktop configuration).

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
