How do I get hdmi audio working on my kodi box?

jp flag

I am using xubuntu 22.04. I am trying to set this box up as a kodi box. The settings sound app show Dummy Output with no other option to select. The Configure tab shows 'No sound card detected'. This works in 20.04 out-of-the-box but does it not detect my network adapter, an Intel I225-V rev 3. It seems the older distros (mostly kernel 5.4.x) works the sound but not the ethernet and the newer distros (usually kernel 5.15.x) doesn't like the sound card but the ethernet works great. Libreelec uses 5.4.x kernel and the sound works fine but I have problems with the ethernet and wifi. So I know the sound can work. The details:

Playing WAVE '/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Right.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 48000 Hz, Mono

I get sound but otherwise no joy. Since I am using this as a kodi box I am specifically looking for hdmi audio. I have 3 sound servers running and a slew of sound modules loaded but no sound. What to do? it

Are you sure your machine meets the minimum hardware needed for 22.04? https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop#:~:text=Ubuntu%2022.04.1%20LTS&text=2%20GHz%20dual%2Dcore%20processor,Internet%20access%20is%20helpful

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
