Hex characters showing instead of unicode on Ubuntu 22.04 (XFCE)

jp flag

I was trying to fix an issue I had with Libreoffice not displaying certain fonts properly, and when I tried this solution, every character turned into a square, which a reset fixed.

Since then, unicode characters have appeared as hex boxes, despite not changing fonts. Here are some examples. Korean Characters as squares Wikipedia characters as squares Arabic characters as squares

I tried to undo the change I did above, but it didn't make any difference.

What do I do?

I meant to ask you to show the complete, exact command.

Sudo chmod 744 /usr/share/fonts/

That was not so good. Try: `sudo chmod 755 /usr/share/fonts`

I reported the answer, from where you got the idea. That answer is pure crap IMNSHO.

That solution worked, than you so much!

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
