Telnet reconnect or maintain session?
cn flag

We currently have several RFID Scanners connected to the backend via a telnet client. However due to coverage of our wifi these scanners might lose there connection for a small period of time.

The devices now disconnect and fail to restart their telnet application unless restarted.

Is there a way to allow a connection drop in the telnet sessions and let them auto reconnect without their sessions bei ...

Another answer for "rewrite: excessive recursion (max 50), ruleset canonify" from sendmail

if you encounter rewrite: excessive recursion (max 50), ruleset canonify a quick thing to check before trying to debug Cw and Dj is that your own tables are not creating the loop.

For postfix I empirically finally added "foo@myhost.com foo@localhost" to my virtual-users file to make it work. Woe and behold, when I reverted to sendmail, I forgot that excess baggage and got the excessive recursion error b ...

Best practice for maintaining a php.ini file
tt flag

I'd like to increase Matomo's PHP memory limit, which as I understand needs to be done in a php.ini file. However, my Ubuntu 18.04 LTS system has many of them: one for each version of PHP.

What's the best practice for maintaining one here?

API requests delayed among docker swarm cluster's nodes & containers

In the process of migrating our docker infrastructure to a docker swarm cluster we are experiencing performance issues when containerized APIs are calling outside ressources (e.g. elasticsearch queries to elastic cloud, or other API's on MS Azure, etc.)

Our first investigations have shown that 1) queries from the hosts are not affected, only traffic from containers is delayed, and 2) the first qu ...

How to check ldap password storage policy
cn flag

How do I check how passwords are stored in a local running OpenLDAP server? I would prefer some sort of query that will state the used configuration. Alternatively, accessing the stored passwords to see that they are encrypted would also be acceptable. Just checking the config file is not sufficient.

I have listed the users with their passwords using ldapsearch

Cannot activate Gitlab Service Desk
no flag

I'm using Gitlab EE 14.3.2. I'd like to active Service Desk on a project.

I activated Incoming Emails as specified in the doc, and gitlab-rake gitlab:incoming_email:checkcommand says it's working.

But the Service Desk menu keeps saying "Service Desk is enabled but not yet active". The Service Desk section in settings->general is empty.

Any idea of what I could miss ?

Thanks

Secure websocket connection to server running on EC2 fails

I have a node.js websocket server running on an EC2 instance on port 8080. Normal websocket connections (ws://) work fine but when I'm trying to make a secure connection (wss://), the websocket connection fails.

I realise that wss requests are sent to port 443, so I'm using ALB to forward requests on port 443 to port 8080. Since I'm very new to AWS I don't know if I'm doing this properly. Here's what ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
