How to block all traffic on a VM except host IP?
us flag

I am running a Vagrant VM and am trying to have a network isolated mode. Since disabling or changing anything with the default NAT interface breaks Vagrant I decided to block ALL traffic inside the CentOS 7 VM except the host IP.

Let's make 1.1.1.1 the host's IP

This is the command I am trying inside the Guest CentOS 7 VM:

sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --direct --add-rule ipv4 filter INPUT 0 -s 1.1.1.1 - ...

Exchange Online: Would messages blocked by a mailflow rule (deleted without notification) show in a Message Trace?
cn flag

Question on Microsoft Hosted Exchange: There are a bunch of mail flow rules and we are troubleshooting an issue with a missing incoming message (from outside the org).

There is absolutely no trace of this message incoming from a message trace (Mail Flow -> Message trace) -- even a domain wide trace. Other emails ARE being delivered from this domain.

In case we have to audit our mail flow rules -  ...

Background

Historically in my organisation we have used a particular shared domain admin account (let's call it SharedDA) for almost everything. It is currently logged on to several dozen servers. Bad juju.

Saner minds are now prevailing and we are planning to completely remove access to this SharedDA account, with the ultimate aim of deleting it, however we have a certain number of our technica ...

How to isolate devices on a subnetwork?

I am an electrical engineer working for a university. Our network infrastructure does not allow static IP. Only DHPC devices can be connected to the wired network.

Can I assign port 113 to other service, e.g., like a SSH server, without harming other services?
br flag

I have root access to a server (S), but have no control over the firewalls over the network. I set up a virtual machine (VM) inside the server (S) and wanted some users to access VM directly, i.e., without providing them access to anything else inside S.

A straight-forward solution was to set up a tunnel that listen to another port, like S:22000. However, users are on a different network, that filters all ...

Exchange Server Issue from cancellation of email protection service - Emails stuck in limbo

My company is a small startup without an IT department. We registered our domain through GoDaddy and then added email service - which runs through Microsoft office 365.

We recently added on an email protection service after becoming concerned about the number of phishing and malware emails making it through the default protection. We added this on through GoDaddy - it is a service from Inky.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
