Windows Server 2019 high round-trip time low transfer bandwidth
in flag

I have two Windows Servers 2019 with a round-trip time of 88 ms between them. When I try to measure bandwidth with iperf3 I get only around 16 Mbits/sec in both directions with a single stream. To get the actual bandwidth assigned of 1 Gbits/s I need to increase windows size to 1M and run it in 10 parallel streams using -w 1M -P 10. I also get good performance when I copy files between them.

Wordpress error PCLZIP_ERR_MISSING_FILE (-4) when I'm trying to install, update a plugin, but the error is solved temporarily if I restart the server
br flag

Whenever I try to install or update a wordpress plugin, I get this error:

PCLZIP_ERR_MISSING_FILE (-4)

This is also happening if I edit a template from a layout manager or if I do anything that depends on the /tmp folder.

If I restart Apache, the problem is solved, but only temporarily. After a few minutes to one hour it looks like the access to the /tmp folder is restricted by Apache again.

How does Windows DHCPv6 server prevent conflicts with other DHCPv6 servers?
br flag

With Windows DHCP server I can have two servers serving a network's scope so that if one fails the other picks up the slack. With DHCPv4 there are two options for doing this, the first is to set up a fail over relationship, the other is to set the start and end of the scope on each of the servers so they don't overlap.

I'm trying to understand how this works with DHCPv6. When I set up a scope wit ...

Why my simple searching query is too slow?
ru flag

I don't know why searching in my "cities" table is so slow. My query looking for a table "cities" located about 25km from the city. I use this simple query and the database takes almost 20 seconds to return results.

SELECT city_destination,distance FROM cities WHERE city_start='Wien' AND distance <= 25 ORDER BY distance ASC

Table engine is InnoDB. The table has approx. 7 millions of rows:

How to configure Postfix to return enhanced response code
ng flag

I'd like to return by Postfix 550 5.1.1 for some specific domains. I followed the manual and created the access file, with a single row: baddomain.com 550 5.1.1

The 550 is returned, but instead of 5.1.1, 5.1.7 is returned. I don't understand, why. I would like to return 5.1.1, to emulate that the recipient address does not exist on the server.

Thank you!

Max Age of a EC2 instance?
tr flag

I have been using AWS EC2 as "normal" VPS hosting provider for the past 3 months - simply because it is well integrated to other AWS services as well as the price doesn't make a big difference using reserved instances for me.

Is there a maximum age at what an EC2 instance should be replaced, or are they able to run "forever"? I'm not talking about retirement.

Thanks for your help/insights!

How to monitor outbound bandwidth usage in Linux?
us flag

Currently I use vnstat to monitor my bandwidth usage. What I want to achieve is to get data for making the decision whether to stay in a more expensive but unlimited cable based plan, or to switch to a cheaper, mobile based and limited data plan.

So what I really want to know is not the total traffic going through my network interface(s), since I have a small LAN with a NAS and other stuff, but t ...

QEMU/KVM: how to protect monitor access?

Runing QEMU/KVM with monitor: kvm ...some_parameters... -monitor unix:/my_path/my_fifo,server,nowait

We can then connect using socat - UNIX-CONNECT:/my_path/my_fifo then type commands.
Easy and handy.

I'd like to expose the monitor interface to the local network (probably using socat, according to the securing method), which is resonably safe. How can I protect access to the monitor?

Inconsistent 403 Forbidden issues with images on a website

I am getting inconsistent HTTP 403 Forbidden results when requesting images embedded on a webpage. This is happening more frequently in FireFox, but occasionally also happens in Chrome. This website has been used for many years and this just popped up a few weeks ago. I control both the website and the server and am not sure of how to troubleshoot this issue. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
