Does creating a 10th level domain require creating 9 domain that preced to it?
iq flag

Let's say, I own a domain example.com and it's setup correctly in my domain management dashboard. Now I want to create a long subdomain of the 10th level:

d10.d9.d8....d2.example.com

Will all that require that I somehow specify the IP addresses, or whatever what's required, for all the 9 domains that preced it? Or can I go straight to d10. and specify the IP address for d10 only?

I am working on an app which can start and stop a service (lnd) with different options for different users:

  • Service Instance n for Neil using config n

So, as a quick solution to see if it works at all I just start the service in separate terminal windows. It work ...

Amazon AWS ACL rules limit
ng flag

I have an EC2 server in Amazon AWS. I need to set up ACLs on my public address, especially restrictions on incoming traffic. But I was surprised that the rule limit for each route is 20. For absolutely insufficient, how can you exceed this limit? I have to restrict UDP traffic.

Thank you very much.

Windows Update fallback plan when system is powered off?

Background

I have a Windows domain consisting of ten Windows 2022 servers and five Windows 11 Hyper-V VMs. The servers live at AWS. The Windows 11 VMs live on various laptops.

I want to implement a reliable Windows Update strategy.

Kerberized NFS4 takes 5 seconds to open a file

I set up a NFSv4 server and a client both running Debian 11.3 on Linux 5.10.0-13. It basically works i.e., I see all files with correct permissions and can open, modify, etc. However, opening a file causes a 5 second delay.

The server exports directories like this in /etc/exports:

WireGuard `wg-quick up` hangs on `ip link add $profile type wireguard`
bw flag

I've been a happy WireGuard user for several years and never had any issues. Today, for seemingly no reason, I started having issues.

I ran wg-quick up $profile as root and that terminal session locked up (ctrl+c/d etc don't kill it). The only output was [#] ip link add $profile type wireguard.

Here's my config:

How long should it take for google to authenticate a DKIM TXT DNS entry?
in flag

enter image description here

Does anyone know how long it takes for google to authenticate a DKIM TXT DNS entry?

The entry sits in AWS Route53 and the record is correctly saved, the record is only on a 10 second TTL.

Google seems to be happy with reading the record.

But... it has been sat like the image now for over 4 hours.

Is it meant to take this long, or does anyone have any tips?

RDS does not support creating a DB instance with the following combination

AWS recently notified me I need to upgrade an RDS instance that's using an instance type that's being removed.

So I logged in, and bumped up my instance size from m1.small to m5.large (the smallest they still have), clicked apply, and it gave me this error message:

RDS does not support creating a DB instance with the following combination: DBInstanceClass=db.m5.large, Engine=postgres, EngineVersion=9. ...

nginx alis works but it is not returning correct mime type

I have setup one nginx rule

This works good for cases that I want like example

  1. https://example.com/sitemap-1.xml
  2. returns file /var/www/html/sitemaps/sitemap-1.xml

My issue is that that in response headers content type is content-type: text/plain and not correct for xml file

Choose all labels in a Grafana time series chart in one go instead of "Ctrl+click"-picking each label until the full list is marked?

In a time-series chart in Grafana, I try to mark a bunch of labels so that all of their curves are shown.

As a default, I get only four labels' curves in the graph, but I have dozens of labels and I do not want to mark everything with the mouse, it takes too much time and nerves.

The idea is likely that choosing too many curves will leave you lost in the lines. But in this case, the graph is about f ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
