NginX: How to deny IP on http level, but allow all on some server levels?
in flag

I have Nginx with many defined "services" (websites). I would like to deny access to all of them for lots of IP addresses (mostly international), but at the same time I want to "allow" unrestricted access to some publicly accessible websites. Is it possible to do that with the free Nginx for Windows?

Alma Linux - Not able to ping out
id flag

So I have my first VM in Proxmox and I know the network works as I have used CT in the past without any issues, however I have set up a VM and now I am having network issues.

Seems while it says the network is connected, I can't ping out to 8.8.8.8

I am wondering how do I know if the network connection is valid in Alma Linux.

basically these are the settings I need.

This was supposed to be a simple OS upgrade from 12.5.1 to 12.7.2. Went smoothly, I thought. But now the firewall won't start.

I've been trying to reset it. Holding down the reset while turning on power and variations thereon.

But no matter what I do, it comes on for about a second, then it shuts off. Then 4 seconds later, starts over.

Committed use discounts don't match documentation
us flag

According to this page: https://cloud.google.com/compute/vm-instance-pricing the monthly price for an e2-medium in us-west1 for three years is $11.01.

However, when I go to purchase commitments, and select "General-purpose E2" and two vCPUs and 4GB of memory, for three years, it tells me it would be $18.17/month. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Bandwidth vs Transfer Rate
al flag

I cannot seem to find a definitive answer on this anywhere. But, in general, does transfer rate go up with your bandwidth? Or are data transfer rate and the overall bandwidth, two different things?

i.e. Does 1 megabyte of data transferred over a 10mbit connection take the same amount of time to transfer as it does over a 100 or a 1000mbit connection, or, does that 1megabyte transfer 10x or 100x f ...

How do I backup my Synology NAS to an an expansion unit to carry offsite?

My intent is to use an expansion unit (DX517) to backup my DS920+ NAS, say every week, and then carry it offsite. I hope I bought the right equipment!

I'm an absolute novice at this. All I've done so far is create a new storage pool on the expansion unit and I don't know what to do next. Further, when creating the storage pool I was warned that I can't turn off the expansion unit using the power  ...

I'm trying to add etag based cache verification to a web app I've developed that runs on Apache via an NGINX reverse proxy. The web app is written in Perl. In the Perl script, I check for the $ENV{'HTTP_IF_NONE_MATCH'} header and then test the etag in it, if it exists. If I access the app via cURL, it works:

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
