SSL certificates apparently confusing different websites
ug flag

My VPS contains a dozen or so websites, with several SSL certificate including the following.

  • *.railtrax.com
  • *.insiderarticles.com

Currently, all the *.railtrax.com websites are working fine. But the *.insiderarticles.com website (I only have one) is giving me an error in the browser (note the last paragraph).

Nema 5-20 Female to Nema 5-15 Male Power Adapter for UPS: safe?
in flag

I bought a large UPS for my server and didn't realize it comes with a NEMA 5-20 plug. We're in a residential setting and don't have those outlets. I see Nema 5-15/20 Female to Nema 5-15 Male Power Adapters but it seems not safe to me, if the device is expecting a dedicated 20 amp circuit. How to save choco packages locally?

We have few choco packages to be installed as dependency to our application. So, we are running the choco install commands before our installation created using installshield.

But now, customers are asking for installation without the need of internet access, for lockdown environments.

I tried setting up local choco server but it requires license to setup and which is not feasible for us to tell the ...

How to use sar to monitor cpu and memory usage over a period of time?
cn flag

First, my top/htop shows that the uptime is:

23 days

Then I do:

 ls -l /var/log/sa/ | wc -l

My first question is, is each file under /var/log/sa directtory storing utilization data for each day? If that is the case, why is there 60 files, but the machine uptime is only 23 days?

If I do:

sar -f /var/log/sa/sa26

Does this check cpu usage for a particular day? How can I get a summary of cpu usage ove ...

Certificate to a Sub domain on my home server

I have read many articles on certs on a subdomain, but I'm still confused.

My hope is someone can explain how this needs to be configured.

I have a production server (hosted VM) for my site (eg. https://www.example.com, ip: 1.1.1.1). I have an application that I host on a machine on my home network (eg. ip 2.2.2.2).

I would like a subdomain - dev.example.com - to point to 2.2.2.2 (I configured this wi ...

nginx replace last part of dynamic URL

I want requests coming for the URL

https://my-domain.com/api/data/app/public/customers/<id>/wrong/

redirecting to

https://my-domain.com/api/data/app/public/customers/<id>/correct/

where <id> is a number in the range 1 to 10000.

Everything else should just be passed. Should I use a regex rewrite rule for this or is there a simpler possibility?

Switched BizTalk's database domain, but cannot remove DC
cc flag

I've inherited an older system involving BizTalk (Server 2010) where the application and its database were on separate servers on separate domains.

There has been efforts to modernize the systems and applications, and I had to roll with it when the databases were upgraded from SQL Server 2008 to 2017. I thought it would reduce complexity if we at the same time moved the database from its domain t ...

Securely connecting to clients via RDP over VPN

I have a network connectable by VPN, and want to limit most users to only be able to access certain hosts, indirectly.

It consists of several Windows hosts that will be connected by RDP. I'm more of a general guy and don't have so much knowledge about Windows Server and Terminal Services to be honest.

My goal is that the user will be able to RDP to one single machine, and from there be allowed to RD ...

Packaging two builds of an application into separate RPMs, hosted in the same Zypper repository

My application is able to run on OperatingSystem 3 and on OperatingSystem 4. OS 4 stopped shipping OpenSSL 1.0 in favour of 1.1 (as should be), while OS 3 is still on OpenSSL 1.0. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
