Firefox saved logins recovery with photorec

cl flag

I basically destroyed my Ubuntu drive with a bad terminal command that wrote over some essential portions of the drive. I'd estimate about 95%+ of the data is still intact but hard to reach. Now I'm just trying to recover some of my files with photorec.

Most importantly, all my passwords to various online accounts are randomly generated strings that I had saved in Firefox to autofill when needed. These passwords are saved in two files explained here. The files are named key4.db and logins.json.

Photorec does not recover the names of files, nor their location on the drive. So the task at hand is to try to find these two files using photorec in a sea of tons and tons of files. Even if I find a file that potentially may be one of the two, how would I even know it? Any help from someone with better data recovery skills than I would be greatly appreciated.

Those files will just be recovered (if at all) as plain JSON and SQLite databases. I was surprised that PhotoRec does in fact recognise JSON files, I didn't think it could do that.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
