Kubuntu 21.10 (and 20.04) - Text Glitching w/ NVidia GTX970, all driver versions tested, Plasma desktop

lu flag

Slowly at my wits end with this, so asking for help :)

Situation: I have an NVidia GTX970 card installed - works perfectly (tested on other OS) though in Kubuntu (20.04 and 21.10 affected) with latest prop. nvidia drivers (and with open source drivers), after a short while, text rendering gets very glitchy across a lot of applications. It'll either look like the picture below, or little green squares, or a combination.

I've tested different propriety drivers (390 to 470) as well as Nouveau, but it will still happen after a little while.

I'm not amazing when it comes to the deep dive stuff, so I beg you to be a bit patient with me, but please can someone offer to take the wheel here because I'm losing my mind.

NB: Card works fine, I have a Windows 10 installation on another partition and no issues. Also seems to be an issue with GTX960 which was installed before hand, so I can rule out hardware issue confidently.

Demonstration of glitches

UPDATE: This issue only occurs when fonts anti-aliasing is turned on

Refer https://askubuntu.com/help/on-topic where you'll notice only supported releases of Ubuntu and flavors are on-topic for this site. For *impish* indri [21.10] questions you'll need to use a development support site such as IRC (#ubuntu+next) or Ubuntu Forums, or wait until after release for this site [expected release date for Ubuntu 21.10 is 14 October 2021](https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/impish-indri-release-schedule/18540)) when your question will be on-topic here.

The current state of *impish* is beta (but approaching RC stage), where the focus is on *bug hunting, bug reporting & bug fixing* so all issues with *impish* (what will be 21.10 on release) should be on bug trackers so any issues are fixed prior to release. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs You can use #Ubuntu Testers on telegram, #ubuntu-quality on IRC for help with reporting the issue; sorry this isn't the correct place.

@guiverc I assure you I would have, but this issue isn't exclusive to 21.10, it was ever present in 20.04 too as mentioned in the post

If you amend your question to be about 20.04 then your question is on-topic for this site; the details about *impish* highlight you're off-topic & the reports belong on a bug tracker so the issues can be fixed prior to the release of Ubuntu 21.10 (currently *impish*); issues are *more involved* (harder) to fix post-release.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
