Laptop with an external screen - blank screens on login

cn flag

Problem

Setup

  • ASUS laptop N552VW.
  • External Samsung monitor connected via HDMI to HDMI.
lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 22.10
Release: 22.10
Codename: kinetic

Problem

External monitor is in stand-by mode. Hit power button on a laptop. External shows ASUS logo, then the login screen is supposed to emerge. External shows an over-sized cursor for 1 sec, then blank screens on both internal and external.

No reaction to any actions. The only solution is to turn off both laptop and external monitor.

How I make it work is:

  1. Power on the laptop
  2. Wait until the login appears on the laptop, login, get to the system.
  3. Power on the external monitor.

This is pretty retarded experience...

Tried solution from this post https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/9z4ylll4

With copying the config to the gdm3 folder - that do not seem to work.

Here is my Settings / Devices:

This kinda happens since Ubuntu 20 or something..

Any clues?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
