What is igrid server - port 19000?
in flag

Recently our monitoring tools is reporting a port as down, the port number is 19000.

I have never seen this port before and I don't find out good information. Doing some tests, I've seen I can telnet it using localhost, but not ipaddres/hostname:

How to Diagnose Constant ZFS Repairs
ru flag

I ran a zpool scrub 4 times on my pool today. Each time, it found and fixed errors. Bad drive, right?

The pool has 2 drives, and smartctl reports zero Raw_Read_Error_Rate for each. So the drives say nothing is wrong. ZFS is finding errors on both drives.

The drives are external M.2 SATA drives in M.2-to-USB adapters, connected by 6-inch cables that came with the adapters. The PC is an HP EliteDesk m ...

Why was it considered good practice to host only one app per physical server?
cn flag

It seems like before virtualization & cloud happened, in large companies running multiple business applications on-premise, IT departments prefered hosting one application on a dedicated server, instead of several application on one server.

What makes me say that is documentation like this

it is common practice to dedicate individual computers to a single application.

Why ? I haven't made the mat ...

I am trying to put together an Ansible environment that will accomplish the following...

  • Automatically push approved pull requests to a mirror server
  • Ansible server runs the playbook through the mirror (i.e. a proxy) to be executed on managed nodes

What is the correct way to open a port on Mac OS - big sur, specifically?
cn flag

A lot of people are saying to use pfctl with recent versions of mac os (prior to Big Sur) - e.g.,

  1. add a line to /etc/pf.conf to open the port
  2. reload settings via sudo pfctl -f /etc/pf.conf

But this does not seem to work (and I got an error saying doing so could "flushing of rules present in the main ruleset added by the system at startup")

NEW counter missed in statistics conntrack -S
aq flag

From this question Statistics /proc/net/stat/nf_conntrack is missing on Linux server I recognized that /proc/net/stat/nf_conntrack has an alternative conntrack -S.
In /proc/net/stat/nf_conntrack there is NEW counter, based on which the one can calculate CPS (connections per second) metric. But in conntrack -S I see no such a counter.

How can I obtain the NEW conntrack counter without /proc/net/stat/n ...

Can't log into Centos SSH server after changing port
nr flag

I was changing my ssh server's port to create a honeypot.

I changed the port through /etc/ssh/sshd_config

It originally said

#Port 22

And I changed to

Port 69

I now realise that I can't log back into it. I am hosting the server through AWS ec2.

Please can somebody tell me how I can re-login to the server as there is years worth of shit on it!

CA Recovery in Active Directory
in flag

I think I understand, but I want to be sure.

We are running two Windows 2016 domain controllers (VMs), one of which is performing the role of a certificate server. We perform system state backups daily and offload them to a remote location. If, for whatever reason, the Domain Controller with the CA needs to be completely rebuilt, I assume I can do a non-authoritative restore using the most recent ...

needrestart keeps asking for rebooting on new kernel
bd flag

I have removed obsolete kernel after new kernel was installed. Now I keep getting following message from needrestart over and over again:

The currently running kernel version is 4.9.0-16-amd64 and there is an ABI compatible upgrade pending.

Several restarts of the box did not help with this. How can I fix this?

I'm wondering how I can go about adding a new disk to my server? I'm unsure how to do this.

I've tried installing 'gparted' with this command

Parent domain vs Child domain
pk flag

As far as I know, a child domain's fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) must be a subdomain of the parent domain's FQDN. Also an implicit trust (two way - transitive) is established between them.

Are there any differences between the child domain and a parent domain? Are there any things that a parent domain can control or do to a child domain that a child domain can't do to a parent domain?

How can I easily manage constantly changing public IP addresses in my many security groups

Our development environment is hosted on AWS, and is accessed by dozens of people. As people join and leave the project, or work from alternate (often temporary) locations, I find myself constantly updating many of our security groups.

Example: Caroline is a developer who primarily works from home.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
