Aurora MySQL - How Much IOPS Am I Using?
lv flag

I am testing Aurora MySQL as a possible replacement to Aurora Postgres. When bulk loading data into Aurora Postgres, it's very easy to see how mush Postgres is going to cost just by looking at the IOPS on a bulk load.

40k

But MySQL does not have a similar metric (Write IOPS). The only metric that looks comparable is Write Throughput. But after looking 800k rows into my MySQL DB I get nothing:

isolating a Liquid Web "cloud dedicated" server during reimage
tz flag

Might be a long shot but I'm hoping the group mind has an answer to this Liquid Web conundrum:

We have two "Cloud Dedicated" servers with Liquid Web. We've taken an image (including a ton of application data) of our live server A and want to restore it on server B as a base, then reconfigure B as a warm spare.

But when B comes up after the re-image, we don't want it sending out duplicate or bogus e- ...

How to start containerd as a service after yum install?
jp flag

I installed containerd on Amazon Linux 2 using the suggested commands:

sudo amazon-linux-extras enable docker
sudo yum install -y containerd

I added this in the EC2 user data script to run at instance launch time.

But, how am I supposed to start containerd (a container runtime - similar to docker) as a service? Since I installed through yum there doesn't seem to include a systemd service file. T ...

Upgrade from centoS 6.10 to what OS for OTRS/Znuny?

I have a centOS 6.10 installation which needs a upgrade to a newer CentOS. But since CentOS support will be dropped for LTS I have now to decide to which path to switch.

I need long term support for installed linux package regarding security updates. And CentOS did a good job on this.

Can anyone tell me, what the best distro alternative for OTRS/Znuny to use? Rocky Linux? Alma Linux or maybe even so ...

Why not shorten a single :0000: field in IPv6
jp flag

rfc5952, section 4.2.2 "Handling One 16-Bit 0 Field" goes:

The symbol "::" must not be used to shorten just one 16-bit 0 field. For example, the representation
2001:db8:0:1:1:1:1:1 is correct, but
2001:db8::1:1:1:1:1 is not correct.

The kawamura-03 draft has a hint as to why:

4.2.2. One 16 bit 0 Field

"::" should not be used to shorten just one 16 bit 0 field for it would tend to mislead that there ...

NAT64 on Debian

Update 2: I wrote a quick&dirty tutorial for Jool on Debian 11, since their website is very thorough, but also slightly confusing and the examples too complex for most cases.

I'm looking to go IPv6 native and need a NAT64 implementation on my Debian routers. Is tayga still the way to go, as it's in the user space and all? Is there no kernel equivalent to "iptables ... -j MASQ" for NAT64?

A single notification listing all of the failed recipients or separate notification messages MUST be sent for each failed recipient. For economy of processing by the sender, the former SHOULD be used when possible.

Connecting though WireGuard to VPN connected server

I'm trying to connect to a VPN connected server, right now it only accepts LAN connections but not from outside the network.

My ultimate goal is that the server is always connected to PIA VPN (WireGuard protocol) and I'll be able to connect to this server via WireGuard hosted on this server. I know I'll need to do some routing but I don't know where to start.

Can a VoIP or an L2 switch prevent a PC from accessing a network printer under 2 VLAN circumstances?
br flag

My organization's network topology goes like this:

PC -- VoIP -- L2 switch (no IP address, only performs L2 switching)--Network Printer

Also, the same L2 switch is connected to an L3 switch for access to the outside network.

Furthermore, the VoIP is set such that VoIPs share a separate VLAN, while PCs and other devices use 'untagged' VLAN 1.

The problem is that with this topology, the PC cannot even find  ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
