Securing Windows Server NPS/SSTP
ru flag

Looking at our NPS logs I see we're getting hammered; some online actor is doing a brute force on various login names and passwords.

In general this isn't an issue... yet. It doesn't appear that a breach has occurred (especially since it's not a single login being attempted multiple times but rather random login names).

However, I've identified some key issues which I'm not sure how to resolve just  ...

How to reduce MySQL/InnoDB disk writes
gb flag

I'm stress testing an application that uses MySQL. The bottleneck is the MySQL disks (separate for main data and redo log), which are written to quite much. atop indicates their usage is near 100%. If I disable the redo logs (ALTER INSTANCE DISABLE INNODB REDO_LOG), then the disk usage becomes negligible (2% for the main disk and zero—naturally—for the redo log disk).

I need to reduce disk usage  ...

Shutdown KVM Guest via rdp

We have multiple OpenSuse VMs running on a server via KVM. Our users access the VMs via Guacamole as a xrdp session. If the VMs are in status "shut off" or "pause" a magic packet send from the guacamole Server is triggering a script based service which will "start" or "resume" the specific VM.

The problem now. If my users shutdown their VM, the VM doesn't switch to status "shut off" instead it st ...

Can I acess a web server located in another subnet?

I have a Laptop and a PC. My first laptop shares the same LAN as the PC, let's say they have 192.168.1.10(Laptop) and 192.168.1.20(PC) so I can SSH into it, ping it, etc… and vice-versa.

Now, I have an app on the PC that creates a web server on a different interface and I access that web server, ONLY from my PC(192.168.1.20) with the IP 192.168.40.150.

So my question is… Is there any way I can acce ...

How to verify if cgroup tree is writable?
ao flag

I'm trying to follow this documentation and I'm struggling to understand how can I make the cgroup tree writable or how I can verify it.

In that documentation, I have a link towards how can I allow delegation of other controllers in cgroup, which I did. I didn't find a way to specify the Delegate=yes property. In delegate.conf I can specify something like this Delegate=cpu cpuset io memory pids.

Assembling the number of small data packets into the big one (in Linux Gateway)

Ben

Is there any way to collect (assemble) incoming small data packets with MTU 1500 into the big ones with higher MTU (Jumbo frame, 16K, or even 64K), and then forward the new big data packets (with higher MTU) to the network (or tunnel)? As I know there is some feature in the kernel like GSO, GRO, and TSO,...which work with data packets. For example; TSO spilt large data packets into small parts and sends ...

Migrating Asterisk VoIP to new network
vn flag

I've an Asterisk server with 4 IP phones connected to it, and gotta move them to a new network (IP range). When changing the IPs and gateway of the server and the IP phones, the phones stop working and they display the message "no service", despite they can be pinged.

They're declared in the /etc/asterisk/sip_additional.conf with host=dynamic, so I assume they should be recognized automatically.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
