Are affordable hardware raids with BBU still worth it?
bo flag

We have done a lot of research and got conflicting answers from experts. What is your opinion on the following?

  • 14 x 16 TB HDDs (Raid 10 -> 100 TB usable)
  • HW: SGL 8405 + AEC-82885T + BBU (replacement kept in stock)
  • 16 thread CPU & 256 GB ECC Memory

We need to build our own replicated S3 (minio) setup for big data cold storage. We spoke with experts on the matter of hardware vs software raid a ...

Generate CA signed ECDSA certificate
cn flag

I need a CA signed ECDSA certificate for testing purposes.
I am able to generate an ECDSA certificate and key but I have never signed one.
I use OpenSSL in a Windows environment to generate certificates.
Is there any way to generate a free CA signed ECDSA certificate?
If not, can someone provide the steps (openssl) to sign my generated certificates?

I have enabled IpV6 only. Why I can still ping 127.0.0.1
cn flag

I would like to test few scenarios on IpV6 stack. For that reason I have disabled IpV4 stack for each network adapter in network adapter settings (Windows 10).

Now, when I run ping 127.0.0.1 - I still do get answer from ICMP. My question is - why this happens and how can I avoid this?

UPD: I might have found one reason for this. Running netsh interface ip show addresses shows special interface... ...

I am trying to set up Apache as a reverse proxy on a new Ubuntu 22.04 virtual machine. We have an existing Apache reverse proxy on Ubuntu 18.04 where everything is working as intended. This new reverse proxy is supposed to replace our older one, but the virtual hosts don't seem to be working correctly.

I have done the following:

The information is the same, strictly speaking; because the binds mounts point to a directory in the same filesystem.

With df -i is possible to see tha inodes consumption, well.

Is this scenario a possible issue/bug with WINRM and IIS w/site bound exclusively to loopback address
cc flag

I believe I have discovered a very strange, narrow issue relating to an interoperability problem with IIS and WINRM exercised by Powershell on Windows 10.

I have a device that has an IIS site bound exclusively to the localhost address, 127.0.0.1. When configured in this way, using "localhost" in a browser address bar doesn't work; the connection will either be refused or reset. The site can only  ...

OpenSUSE transactional server boot partition and efi

I have following problem with OpenSUSE transactional server. By mistake it was configured with /boot being ext4 partition on a dedicated drive, which also contains /boot/efi. I have noticed that /boot is also created on root btrfs / partition and actually that one is being used by GRUB and transactional-update. So to the ordinary user or process ext4 /boot is visible, but when you unmount it normally h ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
