Possible attack on my vserver - outgoing tcp/ip connection
gb flag

I have a suspicious situation on my vServer (Centos 7). An unknown bash script is consuming all the memory from the server. There is a noticeable connection to the "outside".

Unfortunately my Unix knowledge is limited.

How can I forbid a connection to the outside for the user git?

How can I figure out where this bash scripts resides, what the content of the script is?

Exim forwarding for a non-existent domain
gb flag

We would like to use Exim to receive e-mail from an Exchange server and then forward it on to another system (journal archiving).

We're using a non-publicly-routable domain of smtparchive.local and I've added that to an exchange mail connector. It successfully connects to exim but the server rightfully complains:

[email protected] cannot be resolved at this time: host lookup did not complete

Is there a de-facto 'standard' for the gateway address on class C subnets?

Asking because I've been fighting a docker-compose issue with macvlans where it assumes the gateway is always at 192.x.x.1, while the actual gateway is 192.x.x.251

How do I pass on a custom FastCGI param value onto an NGINX variable?
br flag

Using the FastCGI module allowed me to pass on server variables directly onto my PHP application through the use of param. What I'm hoping to do next is record one of these params onto my NGINX access logs.

I've tried directly assigning this to the log format by the param's name, but it seems to result as a blank value. Later I've tried passing this param into an NGINX variable but no luck there as wel ...

How to restart a web application via SystemD if not responding?

When using Supervisor there are a couple of plugins available that are able to restart an application if it's using to much memory (-> memory leak at e.g. some Java-tools) or if the application is not responding (even though it's not officially crashed). I'm looking for a nice way to do it on SystemD-level, too. Is there anyone one can give SystemD a command to recognize a started application is stil ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
