internal DNS for externally managed Route 53 on Windows Server 2016
cn flag
Jay

I'm trying to add a CNAME to a subdomain where the DNS for the domain is split. I'm using a CNAME because that's what the company hosting the site gave me. I've configured my external DNS with the 4 AWS name server records and it works fine. For my internal network, it's not resolving since it's a split DNS.

So I have an internal DNS zone domain.com with the following records.

Best way to remove text from the beginning of a huge file
de flag

I have a huge MySQL backup file (from mysqldump) with the tables in alphabetical order. My restore failed and I want to pick up where I left off with the next table in the backup file. (I have corrected the problem, this isn't really a question about MySQL restores, etc.)

What I would like to do is take my backup file, e.g. backup.sql and trim-off the beginning of the file until I see this line:

Where to manage domain for Office365 (Mail) and Wordpress/Magento
ph flag

I currently inherited a installation running its own server for hosting (Wordpress/Magento) and also e-mail. E-Mails are used within the organization via Outlook (non 365) and imap.

The plan is to switch to Office 365 (as we will also use Dynamics 365 CRM in the future) and I'd like to switch over from the self-hosted emails to using Office 365.

I am wondering now, what is the better solution.

Is it possible to make Postfix accept $myhostname = domain.tld (not host.domain.tld)?
kr flag

Two interrelated questions:

  1. I'm trying to understand if it's not recommended to have a server hostname set to just domain.com instead of host.domain.com (system-wide). One consequence of that for me is that Postfix stops working properly, complaining of user not being found when an email is being received: status=bounced (unknown user: "mailuser") where "mailuser" is a part of mailuser@domain.com. Running certbot on an ECS instance

I am trying to run certbot on an ECS instance which is running a docker image (docker.io/existdb/teipublisher). The image runs well and I have associated it with a custom subdomain teipub.dh-dev.com using an elastic IP.

Trying to install and run certbot so I can have an Https connection has proven to be surprisingly difficult.

How to disable crontab list entries in cron log?
do flag

I have a script on server that runs every few min, and among other things checks if some malicious crontab entries have been injected. In order to do this I check crontabs of all users, which works all good, but my /var/log/cron file gets filled up with entries of the all crontab listings, so everytime I run the script it would log all crontab lists like this:

How to keep conditions in arm template parameters?
cn flag

I found a template for deploying AKS using Azure template.

The template link

When I try to run it, it is showing a form field to provide existing CIDR.

deployment Is there anyway to keep a drop down so that we can opt for either to create a new vnet or use an exsting one, based on that it should hide out the remaining fields and create a vnet.

Please suggest how to achieve this.

I'd like to have the possibility to accomplish a certain routine (fi. trigger a external node script or any kind of script/method whatever), when certain queries come along in MS SQL Server 2014.

Is there a way to accomplish that? (worst case - monitoring log events?)

Does it make sense to augment WAF (Web Application Firewall) with an IPS (Intrusion Prevention System)?
cn flag

Following scenario:

  • Web application, only HTTP/S traffic
  • Firewall in place to only allow traffic on port 80/443 in
  • WAF is in place, set to deny malicious traffic

Question: Is there any added value in this scenario to also have an IPS / Deep Package Inspection solution in place? From all I understand: No. But I didn't find any clear answer out there.

I was at some point storing files in my database (Spring JPA Lob, Byte[]), and then I moved them to the file system, however the size of the database never decreased after dropping thee old columns. I'm investigating again now and I've deleted -ALL- the tables, and yet it is still 500mb. lsb_release called every few seconds
pk flag

I have an odroid XU4 running the manufacturer-provided minimal Ubuntu 18.04. Every few seconds (it's not really consistent, but think between 5 and 30) I get a call to lsb_release. Sometimes it gets called with the -r flag, others with -i. This causes a spike in CPU usage that turns on the board's fan (which is quite annoying).

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
