USB does not work (no mouse and keyboard) after dist-upgrade on Ubuntu 20.04
co flag

Did my regular dist-upgrade today, and could not use a mouse and a keyboard after reboot. USB stopped to work. Next, I did a clean reinstall of Ubuntu-20.04.03, and again, after I dist-upgrade'd the mouse and keyboard were gone.

I can repair USB by booting into the previous kernel 5.11.0-27. When comparing the boot sequences in journalctl, the difference seems to start at message

How can I install Ubuntu alongside Windows 11 on LG Gram i7?
cn flag

Have made a sd/usb with Ubuntu which I used on my old PC and there I can switch the boot order so I can choose between Ubuntu and Windows 10.

This does not work with my LG Gram. It does not want to read what's on it so I created a usb disk to try /install Ubuntu however don't want to damage my Windows 11 on my LG.

Is there perhaps a way to make older an USB work through this newly created one?

Programmatically query latest kernel version to rebuild driver?
in flag

Is there a way to programmatically query the latest kernel version for Ubuntu 20.04 - e.g. 5.4.0-88, 5.4.0-91, 5.4.0-92, etc. perhaps querying a URL of sorts?

I need to build an automated process that rebuilds a driver to a particular kernel version. Usually, DKMS would take care of this, but the driver is for a server with security restrictions and cannot have build tools installed on it. It is  ...

Wi-Fi constantly disconnects or crashes

I constantly suffer internet connection losses or my Wi-Fi disconnects from the network, sometimes when it disconnects and I go to the settings to choose the network, my Wi-Fi network does not appear. The internet drops every 3-5 minutes and then I can be connected to the network but without access to the internet, sometimes I get error notifications when connecting to the network or a window asking to  ...

I have installed maas as recommended here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLADei_c9Qg https://github.com/antongisli/maas-baremetal-k8s-tutorial/blob/main/maas-setup.sh

The host ip address is 10.0.0.2. Fabric-1 uses range 10.10.10.0/24.

When I create LXD VMs using maas admin, ips are taken from range 10.10.10.0/24. I would like to access VMs from my local network and consequently use ip range 10.0. ...

Who should I tell about not being able to use Hotspot usb after the last update?
cn flag

I have been using my USB Hotspot since changing to a new phone carrier a few months back. Recently I had an update to my Ubuntu 20.04 and the USB Hotspot stopped working through the USB cable between iPhone 12 and the laptop. I don't have wifi but Bluetooth works with Hotspot. It works fairly well but not like the USB connection. Who can I inform of this issue so that they can investigate?

Nonresponsive black screen after left idle for
cn flag

I am running Ubuntu (20.04 LTS) on my laptop (Asus ZenBook 13 OLED UX325) and I enjoy it for the most part. However, there I have one issue that is driving my crazy. If the laptop is left idle for a period of time, the screen turns black and it is impossible to undo it after it enters some sort of hibernation or sleep (or suspend?) mode. In other words, it enters some sort of sleep mode, and will not wa ...

Mount Samba from command line as non-root, read/write, without fstab?
id flag

Well, I thought this would have been easier, but I simply cannot find whether what I want is doable.

I want to mount a network Samba share from the command line in Ubuntu 20.04 (MATE) - preferably without any changes in files or saving settings somewhere; just a command line.

So first I tried:

sudo mount -t cifs -o user=MYSMBUSER //192.0.2.1/myshare /tmp/myshare

This works great - in the sense of  ...

Can I overclock my RTX 3060 eGPU (Razer Core X) in Ubuntu 20.04?
za flag

I have a GeForce RTX 3060 in an eGPU enclosure (Razer Core X) and running Ubuntu 20.04. I have it detected and working (nvidia-smi shows stats for the card), but none of the other tools sees it, such as nvidia-setting or the Nvidia X server GUI configuration tool. This also means 3rd party tools such as GreenWithEnvy doesn't recognize the card either. Because of this, I cannot overclock this card.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
