"squashfs error failed to read block" at the end of liveUSB shutdown (after ENTER)
ec flag

I've encountered the errors after some work on Release 20.04.03 LTS booted from liveUSB stick made with Make Startup Disk of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

"squashfs error failed to read block ... -5"

Seemingly never ending at the end of liveUSB shutdown (after ENTER).

I've tried google search but found only related install problems. Granted errors at shutdown are not critical as long as system boots and works be ...

I have a LattePanda alpha. I installed Ubuntu Server 20.04 on an SD card and configured the BIOS to boot from the SD card as the first option. I created a patched Linux kernel with the realtime patch and installed it on the system. The kernel and patch version is 5.4.19.

The system works well overall, but sometimes, the board won't boot. When plugging a screen, I get the following error.

Greets. Trying to install Ubuntu 20.04.3 on a Shuttle SX58J3 computer. This is a Intel X58 + ICH10R based Core i7 box with two Marvell Yukon 88E8057 on-board Ethernet ports.

They're detected OK, the sky2 module is loaded as expected but whatever I try, the interface remains in the NO-CARRIER state. Yes, the cable and switch port are OK. I've tried loading Windows 10 on that same box and network w ...

How should I set up my partitions when installing Ubuntu?
to flag

I am trying to make my laptop dual boot with Windows 10 and Ubuntu. My laptop is having 8 GB ram and a 1 TB hard disk. The max I can devote to Ubuntu is 250 GB.

Now I am trying to understand clearly how much space needs to be allocated to each mount point. Below are the few points I understood

  1. /swap :- used to move files if RAM runs out. It should be greater than 2XRAM. So I can dedicate 16 GB.

on my notebook, I have installed Ubuntu 20.04 and after fixing the WiFi issue that persists with the Intel Wi-Fi AX210 (according to this answer), everything works fine on the network side.

However, I would also like to have a USB stick with live Ubuntu, in case anything with my system goes wrong and I need to recover something. There could be situations where I don‘t have ethernet access while requi ...

Why is the networking options disabled on Ubuntu 20.04 Login sceen
dz flag

Good Day,

Wonder if anyone knows why the networking applet on Ubuntu 20.04 login gdm is disabled ?

I have been searching for a way to to make it enabled like Fedora 34 - but for some reason the information is sparse on the topic, unless i am searching for the wrong keywords.

My assumption is that some policy is enabled but not sure where to look - any advice would be grateful

How can one establish a keyboard shortcut for inserting the current date in Gedit?

I am looking for a way to establish a keyboard-shortcut for inserting the current date when using the text-editor, Gedit. I know it can be done by selecting "Insert Date and Time" in the "Tools" menu - but this is laborious - a keystroke facility would be magic!

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
