My team has the task to build a plan in case the AZ that has the NFS instance fails. This NFS instance shares files with others machines (NFS clients) in others AZ (we use North of California).

How to collect data for AWS autoscaling groups?
cn flag

My team has the task to establish the correct values for the auto scaling groups on our aws environment. Those values you establish on the alarms on cloudwatch, that when they are triggered the number of instances grows or decreases.

It has been suggested to us to use JMeter to stress (with lots of requests) the servers and collect metrics. But that method has not been very effective. Is there an ...

Why virtualization still used instead of containers?
in flag

In 2021 era of containers, cloud providers still use hypervisor to make it possible to use more of a system's available resources and provide greater IT mobility since the guest VMs are independent of the host hardware.

Hypervisor, allows a physical server to operate multiple VMs as guests running alongside each other.

Containers are a form of operating system virtualisation.

Both system can achiev ...

I would like to give my web server user (nginx) read access to the /etc/shadow file and I would like to confirm the steps that I am taking to do this. The system I am using is a CentOS 7.

I am setting up an email server on Debian 11 with Postfix, Dovecot, and Roundcube.

I am able to send emails FROM Roundcube to a gmail address I control.

When I reply to the email sent from my server from gmail however, I cannot see the reply in Roundcube.

I am hopeful that emails are getting through however (and just not showing up in Roundcube) because I am not getting anything from the mail delivery  ...

Verify two pfx certificates are not the same without the password
cn flag

I need to verify that two pfx files are indeed different certificates, and not the same data pasted two times. My constraints are:

  • I don't have access to the certificate password, therefore I cannot use tools like "certutil -dump path" etc.
  • As explained, I cannot rely on the file metadata (creation date, etc.) because I want to verify that the content is actually different.

I understand that the p ...

I have been tasked with upgrading our GCP hosted PostgreSQL databases from version 9.6 to version 13.

We have a number of databases with dozens of users and  ...

Mac OsX (Vagrant 2.2.18) DNS lookup 5s latency

On a regular VM - Vagrant Box (LAMP) on Mac OS, while making a trivial call, there is a 5 Seconds DNS Lookup delay. Is there any reason for it or solution?

Already installed BerlinVagrant/vagrant-dns and added the --natdnshostresolver1 --natdnsproxy1 on settings. The Responses are quicker while calling within 3 seconds. If longer time between, there is a fix 5s timeout.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
