Start idmapd at every boot
br flag

We suddenly had a "nobody" issue on NFSv4 mounts on SLES 12.5 machines.

The:

systemctl unmask nfs-idmapd.service
systemctl enable nfs-idmapd.service
systemctl restart nfs-idmapd.service
nfsidmap -c

solved it (+a correct /etc/idmapd.conf), but after a rebooot, we again have to start the idmapd service.

The question: How can we make the idmapd automatically start at boot?

Active Directory + NFS: Why is domain user's uidNumber, gidNumber not shown by `id` command in Windows?
in flag

I am connecting NFS v3 shares (ZFS datasets) from a Solaris file server owned by domain users to Windows computers, but the concept should apply to basically any POSIX-style server. I'm hoping to find an intuitive way for permissions to persist across platforms, which can also apply to multiple users using the same client.

The Solaris server does not recognize the users' identity when mounting t ...

Openstack VM is not allowed to send packets with the floating ip as origin

I have the following problem, following up on my previous attempt to seek help.

I have a VM that wants to communicate with other VMs that reside somewhere outside of OpenStack. I tried doing that simply by assigning a floating ip. However this fails as soon as the VM is starting to communicate by binding to the floating ip.

This effectively means, the VM must be able to send packets originating from ...

Is it possible to specify an existing CloudSQL instance as the destination for the database migration service in GCP?

According the GCP guides, setting up a database migration involves creating a migration job in the console using the wizard [1]. The wizard creates a new CloudSQL instance, but I would like to specify an existing instance such that we can manage the destination instance through version control (e.g. Terraform)

both take me to Python 3.9. But then when I run

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
