GitLab with local IP install hangs at logrotate
in flag

I am trying and failing to install GitLab (EE) onto an on-premises bare-metal server PC running Ubuntu Server 20.04. The server is intended to later have internet-facing access, but for now it needs to be internal LAN only, accessed by IP or hostname if possible. The PC is currently set up with a static internal IP via netplan. We do not have a domain name reserved for this server or an SSL certificate  ...

What driver created this dmesg message?
de flag

Usually, dmesg entries are prepended by the name of the driver that is posting the message to the buffer. This makes it easy to track down where the error is coming from and how to fix it. In my case, the following message has no meta-information about it:

Autopilot Self-Provisioning fail
jp flag

I'm working on an intune environment. Devices are able to successfully join in user attended mode. However when I set it to self-deploy devices fail on securing hardware with the following code: 0x800705b4. This code seems related to the TPM timing out. Autopilot passes this stage instantly in the user attended mode.

I prepare the devices using a PXE WinPE setup and copying the autopilot configur ...

SSH connection works for root but not user; fails after "Trying private key"
kn flag

I'm setting up password-free ssh connection to a debian remote server. I've generated a key on my local machine and placed the key in both /root/.ssh/authorized_keys and /home/user/.ssh/authorized_keys. The permissions are set to 700 for .ssh and 600 for authorized_keys. The user is "root as user" and has sudo privileges.

So I can ssh in directly as root: ssh root@server. Good.

But when I try to ssh  ...

Changing Ceph to store number of data copies

Currently I am using replication for data placement and think I am using three copies, which I think is the default. How do I change ceph config to store 4 copies on different nodes in different chassis? Also, would this change impact anything existing on ceph?

Thanks, Kampton

Orphaned Domain in Windows Forest - Unable to Connect to Cluster in Hyper-V Failover Cluster Manager

Have a question here that pertains to an orphaned domain, specifically trying to connect to a Hyper-V cluster in Failover Cluster Manager.

We have a Windows forest with a root domain of domain.tld. Inside the forest there are 4 domains, something.domain.tld, other.domain.tld, etc., each with multiple domains except for one. So, other.domain.tld has just a single domain controller.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
