How to increase display scaling above 200% in ubuntu 20.04?
in flag

I have a laptop Dell Latitude E7470 with screen resolution 2560x1440. I am currently using the display at 200% scaling in display settings, however, I need a scaling factor above it like 225% or 250%. Can anyone suggest how to do this?

I have tried setting dpi with :

xrandr --dpi

and also setting scaling factor with

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface scaling-factor 3

Speaker is treated as headphone
de flag

Tried both ubuntu 20.04 and 21.10. On a Huawei Matebook 13s 2021 laptop, speaker is treated as a headphone. When the headphone is plugged in, the speaker and the headphone are playing sound at the same time. When the headphone is removed, the speaker doesn't play sound. What is more interesting: when headphone is unplugged, and select "Headphones(unplugged)" as the output from PulseAudio Volume Control, ...

How Complex Could a Terminal Program Go?
in flag

I have been using Linux for about 6 months and I got into terminal programs like cmus, MPlayer, and sc. I am wondering how complex a program can get before creating a GUI would be better. An example would be if I took GIMP and made it render and work exactly the same, just in the terminal. I guess I just do not understand the limitations of the terminal, if there are any. Anyone who knows the limitation ...

Crackling and barely audible sound when headphones plugged in
cn flag

I have a Galaxy Book Flex2 Alpha. When I had Windows factory installed, the headphones/headphone jack worked fine. When I formatted the drive and installed Ubuntu 20.04, suddenly audio through the headphone jack became crackly and barely audible, while audio through the built-in speakers remained fine. I would've thought the headphone jack was defective if it wasn't for it working perfectly a few minute ...

Chrome/Chromium keeps showing "Your connection was interrupted"
in flag

About once a minute (sometimes more, sometimes less), both Chrome and Chromium show "Your connection was interrupted". Sometimes it just doesn't load and shows a blank screen. On JS heavy pages, ajax requests also fail leading to strange behaviour. The issue is not present in Firefox or on the command line.

I have tried:

  • re-installing chrome and chromium
  • purging network manager and re-installing

What must I do to open an iso9660 filesystem in rw mode

I have a USB stick with a live system. One file in this has got the wrong md5 sum. The ISO image from which it was made had the right md5 sum.

I want to rename the broken file such that it does not harm any longer and put a known good replacement into the same directory.

Of course I could make a new stick from the onset. But my special stick has more than one partition and I want to keep the other p ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
