Mount multiple NFS subdirs with differents options
ug flag

The following setup:

ip_address:/maindir/subdir001 /mnt/test001 nfs soft,nfsvers=3,timeo=50,retrans=2 0 2
ip_address:/maindir/subdir002 /mnt/test002 nfs soft 0 2
ip_address:/maindir/subdir003 /mnt/test003 nfs hard 0 2

Mounting these directories, I would expect the output of mount to show each got their own options. Instead, all 3 get the options of the first one mounted.

Shared network attached storage - trunked with multiple vlans?
cn flag

I am introducing an NFS server which I would like to share with KVM guests across different VLANS. I am trying to find a solution which would strike a good balance between function, serviceability, observability, and security. In this case I have three KVM-Hosts which are configured as follows:

  1. Bond created for physical NICs on the KVM-Hosts (4x 1GB on each)
  2. Interfaces "vlanX" created for each vlan on ...

Email disappearance on Exchange
us flag

I have an issue with the disappearance of emails, from the particular mailbox. I have one mailbox and it has a security group on it.

Emails disappear when it is being sent from internal users usually. Not really sure if it happened with external users.

In the security group, only 2 members have the possibility to delete the emails and those 2 members are actually directly connected to the mailbox.

Nginx giving "No such file or directory" error for static files
by flag

I am trying to deploy a site on to a linux server following Corey Schafer's guide for Flask.

My site is working, but nginx is unable to read/access/find the static folder and the files within.

I initially removed the default sites-enabled and created a custom one:

sudo rm /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default

Then:

sudo nano /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/flaskblog

This is what I input into that file:

Xeon E5-2698 virtual machine, underpowered?

I'm working on a VM which regularly hits 100% CPU load. It's hard to be sure that the running processes itself are particularly heavy, but I have a suspicion that the CPU's may be outdated, which is what I'd like to get some feedback on here.

The machine runs Jenkins and a small webserver. There's also Sophos and Tanium anti-virus and endpoint security running. All-in-all nothing to extraordinary ...

Why we get TCP retransmissions through IPSec Site-by-Site Tunnel
gb flag

We use two pfsense firewalls at two locations and have connected the locations using IPsec site-by-site. That had worked well for a long time, now we had installed the 2.6.0 update at both locations and suddenly the speed dropped massively. I've analyzed this a bit and have read several posts about it.

The tunnel is online for phase 1 and phase 2, I can also ping the host in the other network and ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
