Bridge wifi to vmbr
cn flag

Here is my networking setup:

The system is running Proxmox (Debian-based) so it has a bunch of VMs.

The default bridge of the system is vmbr0, connected via ethernet to a network with the 192.168.86.0/24 IP range

I wanted to create a new bridge (vmbr1) that bridges the current VM to another network with the 192.168.1.0/24 IP range, via wifi

lvmcache/dm-cache writeback cache full performance
id flag

I have a SSD writeback cache in front of a HDD, set up through lvmcache (so a dm-cache). When the cache LV is not full (Data% column in lvs < 100.00%), writes go to the cache device (monitored via dstat). However, when the cache LV is full (Data% = 100.00%), writes go directly to the HDD, essentially becoming a writethrough cache. Blocks do not get evicted from the SSD cache, even after some time,  ...

On AWS how can the ENI of my squid proxy become a blackhole in my route table if the EC2 instance still exists?

enter image description here

Been googling like crazy and can't find an answer. We have three AZs/subnets since we're in Ohio. But this diagram is close enough to explain the issue.

We've set up squid proxies to filter outbound traffic from one of our services.

  1. For each AZ, app servers are in a private subnet.
  2. Then there's a proxy in each public subnet for that AZ.
  3. The route table for the private subnet points 0.0.0.0 to t ...

Storage Spaces - Disk not available

I purchased two identical new hard drives and attached them with a JBOD enclosure to a HPE server. Curious and frustrating situation:

Both disks available:

  • get-disk shows both disks
  • diskpart shows both, too
  • system information also shows both disks
  • Server Manager under volumes - disks shows both disks

Just one disk available

risks upgrading Linux Lightsail instance

Should there be something to worry about when upgrading Linux Lightsail instance with Gitlab installed on it?

I'm looking to upgrade our business Gitlab running on AWS Lightsail instance from Ubuntu 16.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS as its old and ugly. Honestly this is my first time I'm doing an upgrade so I followed some information and I guess there shouldn't be any hitch.

So what's my plan:

Linux, how to ask DHCP to assign a specific IP address

I've recently purchased a tiny PC, on which I want to install Proxmox VE. Currently I don't have any access to my landlord's router, therefore I don't know how big current DHCP pool is (and if there're some IPs excluded from the pool).

Is it possible to ask to the DHCP server for one or more specific IP address of my choice to keep that one forever?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
