No permission on dvdrw station, wrong mounting point?
in flag
Rob

tried burning an audio cd through a .cue file but no cigar. For some reason beyond my understanding the dvdrw is mounted at ~/mnt/dvdrw. Not knowing if that is the right place I found that I have no permissions whatsoever to use the device. I don't burn that much, but sometimes folks want an old fashioned cd and I would like to help them out. What can be done about this, anyone? Thanks beforehand!

Chrome on Ubuntu 18.04 freezes entire computer when launched after update to 97
my flag

I updated Chrome through the regular Ubuntu software updater after being prompted to do so. This updated me to version 97 (specifically: 97.0.4692.71-1). The update didn't give any issues, but the next time I started Chrome it froze my entire computer, to the point that I had to do a hard reset.

So I uninstalled (with sudo apt-get purge google-chrome-stable) and reinstalled Chrome (downloading the .deb  ...

[Ubuntu 20.04] Hi everyone. This problem has only occurred to me since yesterday and had never happened to me. So: if I insert a USB stick with files inside it is detected. But the moment I format it (applies to any other usb drive) it completely disappears from the radar. It remains visibl ...

Ubuntu Studio controls do not start JACK
au flag

I've been using Ubuntu Studio 21.04 for a couple of months and so far so good.

I've been able to use Reaper on my Lenovo Flex 5 laptop and the internal soundcard with no problem, both with JACK and PulseAudio.

I've been using Studio Controls as my preferred way to start JACK, but since a couple of days ago this does not work anymore. Clicking on "Start or restart JACK" simply does nothing.

I run a dual boot with windows 10 and ubuntu 20.04 LTS on an acer swift 3 notebook. that workers just fine. However, now when I try to boot, the error message

shows up. The boot gets stuck at this point and I cannot do anything except for rebooting or going into tty via Ctrl+Alt+F2

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
