Why does the KDE lock screen appear in Regolith Desktop when installed alongside Kubuntu?
cn flag

I recently installed Regolith Desktop to use alongside Kubuntu Desktop. I have fully disabled screen locking in Kubuntu, such that my display just goes to sleep without needing a password to resume.

However, when I am using Regolith and my screen goes to sleep and I wake it up, I get a KDE-branded lock screen dialog and have to enter my password. Because the screen unlocker has a KDE logo, I assu ...

Where can I change the keyboard shortcuts that open control panels in Kubuntu?
cn flag

I recently installed Regolith Desktop to use alongside Kubuntu Desktop. I really like it, but unfortunately some KDE/Plasma settings are spilling over into Regolith.

One thing that is bothering me is the meta-s keyboard shortcut. In i3, it is supposed to turn window stacking on and off. However, for me it brings up the sound control panel. I assume this shortcut to the sound control panel is coming from ...

No DHCP after power cycling my Ubuntu box
gf flag

I am running Ubuntu 20.04. Some time back I removed the snap package manager from it. Network Manager is not running on my system as reported by 'service --status-all' and 'service network-manager status'.

Also systemd-networkd service status is loaded but inactive.

The physical interface enp1s0 has no IP address although it is connected to a router with an active DHCP server.

so I have a storage server that's running Ubuntu 20.04 and I'm using cockpit as a web interface. I need access to that server from another location so I have installed Wireguard VPN. Problem is that I am unable to access the server(LAN) or any public address although Wireguard connection (handshake) is established.

Why can ubuntu use wireless network without having a corresponding driver?
jp flag

Today I for the first time installed ubuntu 20.04 LTS on my laptop. During the installation process I was asked to connect laptop to a wifi, so I did that. This connection works just fine. I can browse pages and install software updates without any problems.

But later when I opened the Additional Driver app, I found out that my laptop's wireless network adapter "is not working" because it did not ...

From terminal mode (live USB) I need to know cleanest way to remove bootup problem: boot: gfxboot.c32 not a com32r image
gb flag

After a problematic install of 20.04 LTS involving partitioning issues corrupting the bootloader I need to know what to fix through terminal mode.

I get the message at bootup:

boot: gfxboot.32c not a com32r image

By using the tab key and typing "live" (enter) I can get the system to finish booting from the bootable zipdrive. The power on boot process does this whether I change the BIOS to boot from the ...

Using ALSA on Firefox instead of PulseAudio
in flag

Since Firefox version >=52, the browser has dropped support for ALSA and depends solely on PulseAudio for sound requirements, hence rendering all sites playing audio broken on an ALSA-only system (such as Lubuntu, an official Ubuntu Flavor).

Mozilla has cited ongoing problems and maintenance issues for dropping ALSA support, as explained in the original bug report. This gives the options of either do ...

How to remount a RAID 0 after a fresh install?

My server that holds all my music, tv shows, etc. stopped booting and after failing to get it running myself, I took it to a place and they reinstalled ubuntu on a different drive. I have 2 other drives in there combined in a RAID 0 that have all the media I want to stream, but I can't figure out how to mount them. I made the RAID with mdadm and I installed mdadm on my pc.

Splitting audio between loopback and analog (3.5mm jack)
de flag

I have made changes to my system to accommodate my specific needs using stuff I’ve found on forums and somehow got it all to work, without really understanding HOW it works. What it does is it creates an audio loopback output for streaming. It works perfectly, but what I am wanting (hoping) to do is to ALSO send audio to the analog output (the 3.5mm jack). It would eliminate the need for a second mac ...

Stereo connections for Bluetooth

I'm trying to play music through my Bluetooth hearing aids. I've actually managed to connect each of them, though not consistently. Just utter the word Linux to Signia or any other hearing aid company, though, and they say "Oh, we don't do that!", so there's no hope getting help from that source.

The hard part of the problem is that it takes two connections, not just one. It's the same situation  ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
