I just installed Ubuntu 20.04 -- dual-boot -- but there are some problems, and I'd like to do a clean reinstall. I originally installed ubuntu from a live usb. But when I power off, insert the usb, and power on again, I get the grub boot installer, with no option to reinstall. And if I boot directly into ubuntu there seems to be no reinstall option within ubuntu.

The point of the script is to send username, and date/time to a log-file witch only I have rw access to once the script is complete.

The script, as of now looks like this:

#!/bin/bash

#whiptail passwordbox

Duplicates and issues with favorites in the dock
lb flag

Since upgrading to 21.10, I've been having two issues in the dock.

  1. Sometimes, the system won't let me add certain apps to favorites. The option does not appear when right clicking the icon. This seems to be random, though. Meaning, in another session, I might be able to do it.
  2. Some apps in favorites duplicate in the dock when I open them. The new icon appear below favorites.

I would like to create a wallpaper slideshow on Ubuntu Focal (20) but I have a multi-monitor setup and would like to have a different image on each screen, all rotating at the same interval, similar to what is available on Win10.

I am aware that you can use Shotwell to create a slideshow (what I am currently using) but it displays the same picture on each screen. I've heard about solutions like n ...

Can I turn off automatic updates of snap apps?

I work in a remote workshop which has no internet connection. If I need to use my laptop while I am working, eg to look up datasheets, I tether it to my Android phone mobile data connection, but that is slow, unreliable and limited in how much data I can use.

I am on 18.04 (Kubuntu) at the moment and have removed snapd. But contemplating upgrading, it is clear that Ubuntu is moving more and more  ...

Extracting specific data from different tables and merging it

I would like to extract specific rows from specific columns from different tables, based on the column header. However, my knowledge seems to be too limited to solve it myself (both in command-line and python).

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
