Launcher icon not found anymore
th flag

The launcher icon for clementine cannot be found anymore. The launcher displays a default cog icon.

Clementine has been installed as a snap. I've found the .desktop file is /var/lib/snapd/desktop/applications/clementine_clementine.desktop and the icon "path" is Icon=org.clementine_player.Clementine which relates to some icon based on some convention I can find nothing about.

I've edited the .desktop fil ...

Ubuntu gets stuck in black screen with blinking cursor after update
ua flag

This happened after the software updater app asked me to restart my system to install updates. Upon restarting the regular boot sequence happens until it hits the blank terminal from which it never continues.

Some things to note are that I originally installed Ubuntu 20.04.2.0 in a dual boot (with Windows) a few weeks back. Also, I would lie if I said that I paid attention what the update was, so ...

Large number division in bash returns wrong result
in flag

I'm trying to convert a very large number of bytes into gigabytes.

echo $(( 41003021288998461440 / 1073741824 ))

This returns 3827300985. That is incorrect. The correct answer would be 38187039354. 11 digits versus 10.

Using different 'scale = 30' or piping through bc doesn't change the answer. What am I doing wrong?

As an alternative I tried this:

awk -v var1=41003021288998461440 -v var2=107374 ...

Can you tell unison-gtk NOT to auto-rescan when you open/change a profile?
in flag

I want unison-gtk to do nothing when I change a profile. This way I can instead press A to detect updates and proceed without waiting.

This is important in case I need to go do something else and just comeback when it finishes rescanning and propagating changes. Without this, I am forced to wait until it finishes rescanning, press A, and wait again, which is very bad on huge syncs.

Messed up the boot... how do I create partitions now?

I'm currently using Ubuntu 20.4.1 and I need to create partitions in the disk. I didn't create any during the installation. I used Gparted but it doesn't seem to be working as the disk needs to be unmounted before resizing and I can't unmount the disk as there is only one partition (which is being used now). So how do I create partitions now??

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
