How to create an sh script to run another sh script with Screen session or Tmux session
co flag

All I want is create a bash script that runs another bash script in a different folder, but with a detached screen session. Also it should be executed as non-root user. Here's what I've done:

#!/bin/sh
cd /bot/ && screen -S Bot -d -m ./bot.sh
chmod +x script.sh

After running it with ./script.sh, it doesn't give me an error, but no response.

Also I tried with:

#!/bin/sh
screen -S Bot -d -m -c  ...

log rotation for /var/log
cn flag

I got an alert that the root directory is running out of space. On inspection using ncdu i found that the /var/log folder was taking alot space. Then further inspection shows that syslog and kern.log are the ones taking too much space. So i tailed the logs for both and found out that they are being written constantly and too fast and my issue is that the log information on each line is similar to  ...

how to tell which application is asking for permissions when prompted
vg flag

In ubuntu 20 I get prompted to enter my password for some mystery application frequently. I write services across root and userspace and need at least a PID or name to have even a notion whether the application should get permissions to keyrings. Why ask in the first place?

How to include OLE text documents in search
cn flag

I've got a LibreOffice Writer document that has a bunch of OLE links to other LibreOffice Writer files (mainly because for some reason when I try to create a new OLE object, it doesn't give me the option to create a Writer object!).

I've got text in them, and I can see the text on the screen when I'm not editing, but when I search for text, it doesn't find the text in the linked writer documents.

How can I get the browser to prompt for duplicate file downloads?
tr flag

Is there any way to get a prompt before downloading a duplicate file in a browser? I sometimes don't remember what I've got and get 2 or more copies of the same file. It would be nice to have a prompt like in Windows.

I'm running Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS.

What's the most appropriate directory where to place development software shared between users?

For sharing data files and directories among users within the same machine, the /srv directory was recommended here:

I am assuming this is still valid or recommendded — correct me if that changed.

But what should be the directory for shared development-related software like Java, Maven, Gradle? They will all be ins ...

Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS systemd-udevd high CPU with CD/DVD rom drive

I know this question seems to be asked a lot in respect to wifi or bluetooth or nvidia but I'm struggling with an issue related to the cd-rom/dvd-rom.

I'm running Ubuntu on a Parallels VM and there is no physical DVD nor connected ISO image.

systemd-udevd ramps up to 100% CPU after a non-repeating time, i.e. there is no consistency on when it starts. It seemed to start when I updated Ubuntu-Base a  ...

I have Razer Deathadder Elite gaming mouse. I wanted to remap its two side buttons so that I would be able to switch between workspaces. I have seen this: Remapping mouse buttons to keyboard keys, but could not figure out how to map the buttons to key combinations (i.e. Ctrl+Alt+Up and Ctrl+Alt+Down).

Add mounts/symlinks into snap automatically
cn flag

I use several symlinks in my root directory usually pointing somewhere into /home directory. I can keep projects organized in directories, but I still have quick (terminal) access to them.

e.g.: /g -> /home/z/projects/kotlin/TheGame

But for snap applications, these symlinks are not visible.

Does exist any way how to globally add such symlinks (/bind mounts/another solution) to snap applications?

How to make cursor visible on start up 20.04 without using the mouse?
cn flag

This question was asked for an older version at: Make cursor visible after startup without moving the mouse

However the answer doesn't work and I can't add a comment there because of being new here.

I use Unified Remote instead of a mouse so the cursor being hidden on startup leaves the computer unusable unless I plug a mouse in and move it.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
