Jon

I wanted to install my AMD Radeon R5 graphic card (integrated in the laptop) drivers of my Lenovo laptop in Ubuntu 18.04 for a modelling program inside ROS. My Ubuntu wasn't detecting the graphic card in Software & Updates -> Additional Drivers, as Windows 10 does. I checked the AMD page and I didn't found the compatible drivers for my case.

So, after making a quick research, I've followed ...

How do I disable mapped drives discovery in Ubuntu 20.04
fr flag
A R

I'm setting up a brand new Ubuntu box in a large network. I noticed Ubuntu is picking and configuring both printers and mapped drives automatically and I don't want this to happen. I managed to disable the cups-related service in charge of the printers thanks to one of the answers here, but I haven't been able to do the same for the mapped drives. Could you help me with this?

dolphin folder previews not displaying for folders on ntfs drives

I am trying to get Dolphin to display folder previews for some of my disks. I understand that for folder previews to be enabled, I should go to Configure Dolphin and under General -> Previews I should tick the box for Folders. It is working fine on the partition where my operating system is installed. All the folders there are displaying previews in Dolphin. However, it is not working for my other di ...

Installing CUDA automatic reinstall Nvidia driver

I am using Ubuntu 20.04 with nvidia gpu. From driver list I can select nvidia driver version 510, but when I try to install cuda version 11.2 (new version is CUDA 11.6). During the install, it will reinstall nvidia driver version 460. Which will happen next is I can not use multiple monitors with version 460. Multiple monitors work well with Nvidia version 510.

Who shrank my fonts?
us flag

I'm running Kubuntu 21.10 and most of my screens have tiny fonts, including this forum. I've gone into System Settings and set my fonts to Noto Sans 16pt. I've gone into the Firefox settings and also set them to 16pt. It hasn't helped. There's something else that is determining the font sizes. What is it and how can I change it?

File names drastically changing when sent as attachments
us flag

Hello there one and all.

I am using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and storing files on Google Drive.

I try to send as an attachment on Messenger which I called "D6 DPH Package.pdf" and it is transformed to "11fI2R08hd3Yzg1lWnfS1VoiHOIeVcp7A"

"Cost.ods" becomes "1Kgg6_N84G0T5Tz0ISh6k5n8kwnsSTqG7" as a gmail attachment!

Would someone be kind enough to tell me why, as I have never come across the problem before?

WiFi authentication required after a timeout

Recently, there is the occasional appearance of a dialog for WiFi authentication. I suspect the timing of the dialog is driven by a timeout. When it appeared I clicked on it and it showed that my WiFi password was already known to Ubuntu. How can I prevent this dialog from appearing?

How do I configure psensor to only alert above a specific temp?
bt flag

I'm using an old dual core laptop that's had temp problems since day one. It's 11 years old now, and the CPU fan is flakey at best.

The max temp for the CPU is 90°C. I've installed lm-sensors and ran the sensors-detect, hddtemp and psensor. Using psensor, I've configured the alarm thresholds for both cores to 80°C for the low threshold and 90°C for the high threshold, as shown below.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
