The Nvidia version 495.46 display driver hasn't loaded after the linux-generic-5.16 installation. I removed some of the older kernel modules using sudo apt autoremove. The graphics card I'm using is NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Rev. Here is the result of dmesg

sudo dmesg | grep nvidia

timeshift: not enough disk space error
in flag

I'm using timeshift from repository, Xubuntu 20.04. I'm trying to back up a small system (25 GB) to a 1TB disk that has 515GB free, mounted on /dev/sde3 as /archiv. sde3 is the only partition on this disk and it has a top-level folder named /timeshift, which is empty. There are two other disks in the system but they're not mounted (as shown by mount).

Why does the installer keep crashing when copying the files? I checked everything
cn flag

I've been trying to install Ubuntu on an old laptop this weekend, a Sony Vaio PCG-6S4M / VGN-SZ61MN, for if that is relevant. I start using a live USB (on a micro SD card actually), but when it gets to the point where the files are copied, it crashes:

The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk

When I call dmesg afterward, the output toward the end contains something like this: ...

Execute script after returning from power saving black screen
kz flag

I've a issue with my external monitor losing the signal in Ubuntu 20.04. It doesn't happen using Windows 10.

I found a workaround here thanks to @user10489 So, I configured Ubuntu to execute xset dpms force off; xset dpms force on when pressing CTRL + ALT + R.

But I'd like to execute it automatically after returning from power saving black screen, just by moving the mouse or pressing any key.

Use /boot for windows and grub?
cw flag

So, I'm about to wipe everything on my SSD and install everything from scratch.

Last time I tried to install Ubuntu, I remember that it asked for a /boot partition for grub to be installed, and I thought, does Windows have a /boot partition where I can install both, grub and have the Windows Boot manager? Or even better, can I use an already existing partition for windows to use as /boot?

Ubuntu 20.04 melting my computer! Slight burning smell from vent!
us flag

After migrating from Ubuntu 18.04 to Ubuntu 20.04, my CPU is burning hot and disk activity is off the charts, while this seemingly un-killable set of processes slams my CPU and harddisk:

tracker-miner-fs

tracker-store

In the process of trying to understand what is going on, I came across this most curious behavior in a bash session:

how package dependencies version name check work?
in flag

I think what is not clear is the version naming check.
For ex.:

$ sudo apt install libsdl2-dev
libsdl2-dev : Depends: libasound2-dev but it is not going to be installed
$ sudo apt install libasound2-dev
libasound2-dev : Depends: libasound2 (= 1.2.2-2.1)
$ sudo apt install libasound2
libasound2 is already the newest version (1.2.2-2.1ubuntu2).

So, why version "1.2.2-2.1" differs from "1.2.2-2.1ubun ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
