I am using 20.04 and trying to add a non-16:9 wallpaper to my 16:9 monitor. I thought maybe I could center or stretch it like you can on Windows but apparently not? It's a TIFF file btw, does that matter? What are acceptable image files for wallpapers? Most of the top Google hits for this sort of thing are absolute garbage explanations that just want to boost their website traffic to make a living. Para ...

how to upgrade Ubuntu packages in WSL alongside Microsoft Store auto-update
cn flag

I started using WSL2 and installed Ubuntu without a specific version number. My understanding is that it will automatically upgrade to the next major LTS release (it's 20.04 now, and I assume it will be 22.04 next year).

Then, what about the packages inside? I can apt update and apt upgrade all of them, but Microsoft Store also auto-updates with newer Ubuntu builds, which I believe will overwrite som ...

Ubuntu 20.04.2.0 LTS desktop installation:

Following guidance from this post's accepted answer:

How to restart X Window Server from command line?

I ran:

Ubuntu 20.04 USB Stick doesn't start Ubuntu on Asus Windows 7 Laptop
gr flag

I want to install Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on a 2011 Asus Windows 7 Laptop. I used Rufus to create a bootable Ubuntu USB and I am able to boot from it. However, when I select the first Option "Ubuntu" in the Grub Bootloader, the screen stays dark after some reading from the USB (blinking LED on stick) and there is apparently no progress (no further LED blinking, i.e. no read/write from USB). Same for the second ...

No input and output sound device. Can't Install Pulseaudio after deletion
cn flag

I recently fixed my broken packages by deleting pulseaudio, since I cannot install any other packages that I needed for my research (I am using 20.04 btw). Deleting pulseaudio seems to solve my problem. I am now able to install other packages. It turns out that, after removing pulseaudio, I do not have any input and output to my sound device.

I even download the pulseaudio_13.99.1-1ubuntu3_amd64.de ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
