how to set capabilities (setcap) on perf
jp flag

So I asked the same question on Unix and Linux Stack Exchange, but I haven't received any answers. I'd like to use the perf utility. I was following instructions to set up a privileged group of users who are permitted to execute performance monitoring and observability without limits (as instructed here: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/admin-guide/perf-security.html). I added the group and  ...

jp flag

The texts, windows borders and everything else looks so small except the application icons, I've used Ubuntu before but it was on Desktop and everything looked just fine. I dual booted ubuntu today on my new Thinkpad e14 laptop and it seems that the problem is with display drivers. On additional drivers it showed nothing.

Here are some images to show you how it looks: file manager ubuntu

How do I fix high memory usage on Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS?
cn flag

Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS is using a lot of memory, (10.1GB out of 12GB of RAM). The RAM fills up over time and reaches dangerously high levels of usage, even when I am using only 2 applications.

I've tried to follow the other suggestions posted on this forum about similar issues. I've run htop and top but they don't return useful information, ie it shows Chrome and Discord using the most amount of RAM - ju ...

Are old package versions removed from their Ubuntu apt package repositories just because they're old?
bd flag

Note: this question can apply to any version. I just chose an end-of-life (and therefore in the past) one in the example to avoid "one can't predict the future"-type answers.

The example, to make the question clearer: if I had kept running sudo apt-get install <specific-package>=<specific-version> && sudo apt-get remove <specific-package> on my Ubuntu once a day for the last 5 ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
