paprefs missing folder
mu flag

Recently I bought airport express. I can stream music to it with no problem at all, but just from MacBook or iPad. I found paprefs, which seemed to be the best choice for Ubuntu, but after installing them, all the options got greyed out. I read further that Ubuntu 20.04 creates folder with wrong name, so I ran this command sudo ln -s /usr/lib/pulse-13.99.1/ /usr/lib/pulse-13.99 and nothing changed. I ...

Screen lock limits (GPU?) performance
uz flag

The other day I set off a machine learning task before leaving the office and was surprised at how little had been completed by the next morning. I kept it running for another hour and noticed it sped up as soon as I had logged in.

The following evening I left it running again but first I disabled screen lock. The next day the ML job had gone through about 5x as many steps as the previous night.

Internal dropouts problems
cn flag

How can I troubleshoot the internal dropouts? WiFi drops out once few minutes. Few days before the problem started I had some cables for my internet changed by the ones I have a internet contract with. I got in contact with them but they didn't identified anything wrong. Could it be because of the PC? I use Ubuntu 20.04 LTS.

On Ubuntu 20.4.3 Alt+Left Ctrl do not function as Alt Gr on Finnish layout
cn flag

On windows Swedish/Finnish keyboard layout left ctrl + left alt works as right alt (Alt gr). On Ubuntu this does not work by default.

For example on Windows: LeftCtrl + LeftAlt + '7' writes the '{' character.

On Ubuntu, on Finnish layout, nothing happens.

I do not except any 'solutions' where I have to set each individual special character button combination separately. It would probably help if I new  ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
