Update ZOOM at xubuntu 20.04 focal fossa
jp flag

I have been using Xubuntu 20.04 focal fossa for a while and now I am trying to update to the latest Zoom version for Ubuntu. When I click in my Zoom account "update to the latest version" it is unsuccessfully downloaded.

Do I have to uninstall and install again the whole package or is there a chance I can do the update from my terminal?

Kingston MobileLite G4 no longer working with SD card
cn flag

Kingston MobileLite G4 lists (lsusb) as: Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Card reader 0bda:0326 System: Fossa

It is no longer working with my MicroSD card when contained in its usual SD card converter straight from the camera. Until recently I had been using it successfully for several years.

It shows in Ubuntu/Disks app as two devices but no longer seem mountable.

dpkg-buildpackage: install to /usr/games instead of /usr bin

I'm building my first Debian package for a small game project, and it builds fine from the C sources, but the compiled executable gets installed in /usr/bin. How can I get it installed in /usr/games instead?

I've tried adding it to debian/install like so:

but that only works when building a package for x86_64, because on other architectures, the build directory is ob ...

Preferred way to copy route configuration to different host?
in flag

I'm replacing a CentOS server with an Ubuntu 20 one. I need to duplicate the older servers routing configuration. The outputs of ip route show and route are not directly usable as inputs.

I'm a bit reluctant to hand-translate the output into route commands, because errors always creep in. Is there a better way?

Why is 'wake from suspend' suddenly ejecting my CD tray?
co flag

CD tray has started opening by itself when I wake from suspend. I wouldn't usually regard as a big deal, but my case has a door on the front, and my CD is actually a DVD-RAM drive (not easily replaceable). Using 20.04 ws & kernel recently updated to 5.4.0-84. Has anyone else seen this and perhaps found a fix?

I'm running Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS. I want transmission, plex, sonarr and radarr to access folders to be able to download files. For this I've decided to add all these users to a group called 'htpc'.

Realtek 8812BU Wireless LAN 802.11ac USB NIC is not working in Ubuntu 20.4

I just installed Ubuntu 20.4 on my Dell OptiPlex 3040 desktop PC.

Now I am having an extremely hard time finding the drivers for "Realtek 8812BU Wireless LAN 802.11ac USB NIC." so I can connect to the Internet using my Wireless LAN adapter. I checked the Realtek website and saw that they do have the drivers only for Windows and they do not offer drivers for Linux.

Apt install size & remove size are different
cn flag

enter image description here

Let's say I installed mumble server. At the time of installation, it showed X MB of storage will be used (can't remember).

If I uninstall those programs, the size is relatively less than that of installation size.

Why is that so? Do I need to remove its configuration? How can I find app-specific configuration?

Running as a VM under Parallels on MacOS. Used to boot fine - circa 10secs - now it's taking over 2 minutes and it's all in kernel (systems-analyze time):

How can I create an AppImage of Wine?
td flag

So I want to package WINE as an AppImage using appimage-builder.

First, I wonder if someone already did this, and yes, here, but it's outdated. I want to make one myself.

Next, I look on the Github page above for how to do this, but it requires PlayOnLinux to have up-to-date stuff, which it does not have.

After that, I looked at the appimage-builder documentation, and I got this.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
