multiple displays does not working ubuntu 20.04 5.8.0-59-generic
us flag

I have been using Dell lat 5591. So far multiples displays with dell docking station were working well. Now with upgrade to ubuntu 20.04 5.8.0-59-generic, no screen is accessible. Tried various nvidia drivers.

When I switch backt to ubuntu 20.04 5.8.0-48-generic, everything works well. The nvidia driver does not seem to be an issue.

Is there an issue with kernel?

Assigned IP doesn't work properly
cn flag

I bought a dedicated server through PhoenixNap in August of last year. Since day one, one of my IPs hasn't worked. I have the range of x.x.x.130-134 and 131 has never worked. At first, I contacted them and they relayed that it isn't an issue with their network and is instead an issue on my issue. The only thing is I can seem to find what would be causing this. The IP is assigned in a netplan, the firewa ...

Ubuntu 20.04 live USB boot hangs due to either of 2 start jobs

Used Rufus to create a Ubuntu live USB; about 11 GB of persistence.

I can boot from the USB and into GRUB without any problems. However, once I actually try to boot into Ubuntu, the boot hangs and does not continue, no matter how long I wait. Using nomodeset shows that the boot hangs on either of two start jobs after about 30 seconds:

Samsung Chromebook Plus V2 - NO AUDIO
in flag

So I installed Ubuntu 21.04 on my samsung chromebook, and it runs perfectly, I install SeaBIOS ROM and everything, so now it's 100% a full blown Ubuntu laptop. Apart from small things like remapping the F keys to the Chromebook function keys, I've been trying to figure out how to get the audio to work. I've done so many things I've seen for other chromebooks, but nothing is working. Has anyone installed ...

Chromium stores passwords in Login keyring that doesn't automatically unlock on login
cn flag

For some reason after newly loging in to my profile on ubuntu desktop I have to manually unlock multiple keyrings to get access to my chromium passwords when I start the program.

My process after login is that I open up seahorse and right click on each Login keyring to unlock it. The problem is there are almost 40 of them, and I can't batch unlock them, so it's a tedious process.

Unitek Y-247A USB sound card frequency response
gb flag

I've been sucessfully using the Unitek Y-247A USB sound card on Ubuntu, including 20.04, for a number of years now.

As this purportedly uses dedicated two channel DAC and two channel ADC, all 16 bit, I'm now wondering what the frequency response and power output is. I'm also wondering if this is capable of dc output and input.

Dell XPS 9310 2 in 1 will not suspend on lid close

I'm running Ubuntu 20.04.2, kernel 5.8.0-59-generic on an XPS 9310. I've come across a number of questions related to the inability to wake from a suspended state, but I'm having the exact opposite issue. Closing the laptop lid does not result in the machine suspending at all.

I took a look at the output of sudo journalctl -b -u systemd-logind and it appears like the lid closed signal is not being sent a ...

Image Viewer Not Showing PNGs?
np flag
mkl

I can't view PNGs using the image viewer, it shows up as a transparent square. The image opens fine in GIMP. Other files such as JPEGs show up in image viewer. I've tried uninstall/reinstalling it and the problem still persists. It's a bit buggy in general, as the minimize and close buttons at the top right disappear when I hover over them. The image viewer was working fine last week.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
