Remove GNOME 40 and install GNOME 3X instead?
ru flag

I am on ubuntu 21.10 (currently 22.04). and i dont like the UI that gnome 40 has on ubuntu. i personally preferred the look of the previous versions (such as 21.04) as it looked more in place with Ubuntu's GUI. If its not possible, is it at least possible to make it "feel" like gnome 3 or in other words, earlier versions of ubuntu which included GNOME? I really dont like the new UI of gnome 40 or ...

Icon on Splash screen
mx flag

When I boot up or when the splash screen comes up asking for me to login I now get a small logo that looks like a briefcase half white and half blue with the word software next to it. I have tried to search for the meaning but I feel I'm not asking the right question. I'm new to Ubuntu so not much experience yet with the OD.

Any thoughts on the issue

Thanks

Is linux kernel boot parameter root=live:LABEL=$iso a valid option for Ubuntu Live booting, e.g. Lubuntu 20.04 LTS?

I was making various GNU GRUB 2.04 menu entries to boot into a live session of Lubuntu 20.04 LTS, and it works fine. In my research I found a reference to setting the root of the GNU/Linux environment, but I'm unsure if it would apply to /casper live session booting. I suspect not.  ...

Ubuntu First Login Attempt Rarely works
us flag

I leave my PC and the screen auto locks. I return to log in. I correctly input password and Ubuntu just stays there for a few seconds till the screen goes black. The only remedy is typing password, hitting enter, hitting escape, typing password, and finally hitting enter.

Resetting the password does not work. I have this issue on both my desktop and laptop.

motd not showing up on Ubuntu 21.10
cn flag

Upon login I get a prompt and none of the stuff from /etc/update-motd.d

Version Welcome to Ubuntu 21.10 (GNU/Linux 5.13.0-30-generic x86_64)

If I run run-parts /etc/update-motd.d/ I get the expected output - it just doesn't run automatically upon login.

I don't have $HOME/.hushlogin configured at all.

Thanks!

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
